A brilliant staple of the park. It has become somewhat of a signature ride and I think they’ve put a lot of effort into it.
The theming is fantastic, the flumes add a bit of excitement and the ride is long however doesn’t get boring at all in my personal opinion. The song fits the ride and I think for entertainment value it deserves full marks as the plot of the story is persistent and doesn’t confuse you in any way.
This is a great ride and one of the best in the park. The theming is both consistent and exceptionally good, making it one of the jewels of the Disneyland Park. The one in California is better if you want thrills (two drops- one 52ft the other 37ft) but the Paris one has a consistent storyline that actually makes sense. However, it would be nice to have an appearance from one of the characters from the movies somewhere.
10/10
This review is no different than others, because all I can do is sing PotC’s praises :)
It really is an amazing ride, and just CANNOT be missed. The theming is spot-on, and I would definitely rate the queue area as one of Disney’s best. I get goosebumps walking through that area, because it so effectively builds up the suspense and atmosphere!
A few tips: If you have young children who are big fans of the movie, make sure they know before hand that this ride is NOT based on the film. I have seen so many children in recent years coming out the ride feeling disappointed because they didn’t see Jack Sparrow. If they know before hand, they’ll be able to enjoy the ride for what it is, rather than looking out for the characters they know all the time!
Another great tip is to wait to ride this at the END of the day. If you head over about an hour before the park closes, the queue qill be extrememly short, even non-existent, and you’lll be able to walk straight on. You’ll probably also find that the Cast Members let you ride again and again as many times as you want! This is definitely a great experience, as there are always new things to discver on the ride :)
This ride has always had a special place in my heart, I can remember watching the television programs with Walt Disney where he would talk about this ride, I always loved the shot of the pick up truck carrying the animatronics along an American highway, and the look of amazement from fellow drivers :D and in 1997 I got to experience the ride for myself, it is my most vivid and earliest memory I have of Disneyland.
The theming for this ride is just top notch, absolutely excellent. From the moment you cross over to Adventureland and see skull rock, passing the stone walls scattered with cannons awaiting the imminent attack, you are just captivated by the sights that meet you. Head towards the Jolly Rodger pirate flag and you might just catch a glimpse of Captain Jack as you pass the Blue Lagoon and the Captains Quarters. As you enter the queue line you are taken further and further into their world, twisting and turning past skeletons in their cells and abandoned quarters.. Nobody can resist humming a little tune of “Yo Ho. Yo Ho. a Pirates life for me” As you are greeted by a friendly pirate who helps you aboard you vessel headed for Tortuga! And off you go into the darkness …
As a child I remember being scared of all the skeletons in this ride, but nether the less I enjoyed every minute of it. Now at the old age of 21 I find the ride to be lacking a little excitement and hope we get the update that WDW has, or at least a refurb (please fix the mayor)!
On our last trip we were lucky enough to spend an hour straight on this ride, thanks to the very friendly CMs and a 5 min queue line, it never gets dull to me.
Tip: Don’t try to take photos on this ride, it only infuriates people, and no matter how good your flash is, you wont get a good photo.
Wuuhuuu!!! This ride is soooo amazing! From the outdoor queue area until the exetorior it is one complete story. During your walk-float-walk experience the storyline becomes completed.
I can´t say more than: ride, see, experience and you fall in love with it.
Fun as always, but not a great hit with my kids. The queue area was lit so darkly that my son (who isn’t afraid of the dark BTW) began saying early on that he didn’t want to go on the ride. As we sailed on, I realized how may scary images there were, so I won’t be taking my two on this ride again for a while.
This is our second most favourite ride at Disneyland Park. The themeing is beautiful and the special effects look great. There’s really so much to see and everything is kept in great condition, but that goes for every ride.
Great ride, my 4 year old wasnt too sure of animated puppets, but they recreated life as it would have been for pirates. Queues not too bad, short. As with all rides, better midweek.
I cannot say enough good things about this ride. The original California version is superior, but this does not matter in the slightest, as this ride is still amazing. The theming and attention to detail is something so brilliant that only Disney could come up with.
Absoloutely fantastic. All ages enjoy this ride and I’ve never had to queue too long. The version in California is hugely inferior compared to this masterpiece, the only one that isn’t based on the films. Great music, the theming is fantastic, rivalled only by Phantom Manor. You can’t miss this ride.
TIP – If you like getting a bit of spray off the rather gentle flumes then I suggest sitting at the front of the boat; gives a nice refreshing feeling.
This is one of my favourites on Disneyland! Very good! Nice music and very much to see on the ride. Perfect for the whole family. The queues are not so long, you can just go on the ride direct if it is not so crowded.
LOVE this ride it never gets old no matter how many times you go on it. And i’ve been lucky in the past to just walk on to the ride, go around twice, then get off, walk around and then go straight back on again.
Love the soundtrack too; I work in a day nursery so have the excuse to listen to disney music every day, and I bought the 15 magical years cd last year and have been listening to it a lot lately to get in the mood for my trip later this month. The song for this ride is on it, just love singing along to it.
A legendary ride and an absolute must do in Disneyland Park. Children under 8 could be a bit freaked out by all the skeletons, pirates etc, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. This ride may sometimes seem to have a long queue but, I assure you, the massive capacity of the boats means it moves quickly. I experienced 5 minute queues at peak times! The queue area is very atmospheric (maybe a little unnerving for little children?), as you wind your way through a deserted pirate town.
Once ushered onto a boat by a friendly pirate you splash gently past the Blue Lagoon Restaurant and drift past creaking old wrecks and torn pirate flags. Look out for the projected moon on the wall and the distant flashes of lightning. You are then cranked up an old boat winch (look for the spooky eyes peering from the nooks and crannies) and splash sedately into the fort. Look out for the cats stranded on planks and crates. You see a battle ranging between the invading pirates and the fort’s guards. Then you head into a jail to see frustrated pirates usher a dog holding the keys. Be prepared for a surprise drop as you plunge into the midst of a pirate battle!
Check out the scenes of chaos as you drift through the rest of the fort. Soon enough the joyful pirates are completely drunk. Make sure they don’t light the dynamite….
Pirates of the Caribbean can’t be experienced through writing, so you’ll just have to see it for yourself. Just remember…. dead men tell no tales!
You gotta do it. It’s fab, one of the best and most original rides-what Disney park is all about. There are pirates everywhere, the humidity of the Caribbean, gold, battles, rum! it’s just brilliant so atmospheric and suitable for all ages, it’s quite dimly lit in places but it’s always lit, not even remotely scary.
My real chicken of a 7 year old niece went on this in December, she whimpered all the way through the waiting area (which is also really entertaining and just adds to the whole thing it really sets the scene) and I wasn’t sure how she would feel about the second waterfall (it’s not a massive drop by any means it’s basically a big slide but she is a wuss) and that went fine arms; in the air and yell “whooooo” for the camera.
We got off the ride and in her own words…
“That was cool”
If you ask her even now it was her favourite ride in the park (and she is a proper girly princess lover) and it’s all she has talked about going on when we go back in August, if the park hadn’t been so busy she’d have rode it all day!
Best ride in the park!! Never had to queue and have been on it more times than i can remember! Great for everyone, and theres always something new to spot. I’ve learnt where the camera is for the on ride photo, so try posing everytime! Never quite got the look i want! But hey, theres always next time, and there will be when we head back in august and am sure to go round a good few times on the best ride in the park!!
The classic Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride is as cool as ever. Although, if you’ve been on the one in Disneyworld in Florida as my family had, we were surprised by how much darker this one was. Literally, almost completely dark in some areas. Also, the walk INTO the ride was practically pitch black at times. So, watch out for that if some members of your party have any fear of the dark.
Wow, i was blown away with the multitiered layout of the attraction. I hope they never tarnish the attraction by adding Jack Sparrow/Davy Jones like they did at the other parks worldwide.
This is a great ride- don’t miss it! It combines the modern technology of animatronics and lighting with good old plunges down drops. Make sure you ride it!
This is my favourite ride, i love it!
The theming is fantastic, just missing Jack Sparrow. Plus a nice warm ride, which in march you very much appreciate.
Adventureland’s best ride. This is a must for any visit and is very atmospheric as you set sail into the land of pirates and adventure. As you pass the diners in the Blue Lagoon restuarant (hopefully enjoying their meals) you enter the humid, water world of pirates. As you are taken up the water hill for your first minor drop you can see and hear the sounds of cannon and muskets.
The tableaus of pirates are great – I always enjoy the two cats floating on wooden crates as they meow pittifully and the now famous dog, with cell keys in its mouth, being coaxed by the inmates of the prison.
Some of the moving items are now looking a little worn (the sword fighting pair are not as impressive as they once were) and the man in the well does not seem to spurt water out of his mouth anymore. BUT the ride is great and the water flume down to the mystical world of the ghostly pirates and the hidden treasure is superb (this is where you get your picture taken!!).
No-one should ever miss this one. Please let us have a working Jack Sparrow and Miss Elizabeth Swan to add something even more special.
I absolutely adore this ride! The theming is magical and the music whilst in the queue’s is just perfect. I couldn’t find a scratch wrong with this. It is definitely my all time favourite ride!
This is one of my favourite rides in both parks. I have encountered some 15 mins queues but it generally keeps moving well. I think the whole idea is great and very imaginative. I enjoy the three drops – the second is the best. Although I can’t speak fluent French I can tell what is happening just by the visual clues.
A must for any visit – my record is 10 times in one five day stay. I still haven’t worked out where to sit to not get splashed and it will depend on how full the boat is – just be warned.
The queues are fast moving and ive never had to queue more than 5 minutes, in fact in September we were able to walk straight on. Have been on this ride at least once on every day of my trips to disney, as everytime you see something new.
The 2 log flume type plunges are just right to add excitment but still keep the ride suitable for all. Although the 1st time we rode, we were seated on the front row, and not knowing the drops were coming the 1st one actually did scare me a little!
Can be a little warm and very humid in the queueing areas and the ride itself, especially in the summer and possibly the whole experiance is abit spooky for very small children as it is very dark in places.
Obviously the films have made this more popular with guests, so the queues are longer than they used to be, but don’t fret – the queues go extremely fast and longest i’ve waited was 15 minutes in the summer.
Catchy song (you know it by now) and some of the animatronics look so real. The dips aren’t that big, which is a little disappointing, but still a brilliant ride!
Everytime I go back to Disneyland this ride is the one thing I look forward to the most! I would go on it everyday if I was allowed.
One of my earliest memories is actually going on this ride with my parents on our first trip to Disneyland, we sat at the front and I thought it was brilliant that I’d got splashed! lol. since then i haave always been captivated by pirates of the caribbean, this ride will always hold special memories for me and i love that the Blue Lagoon restaurant is located inside (a great place for a romantic meal!).
I love the fact that in Anahiem they got all the audio-animatronic characters to the park on a back of a pick up truck! so much thought by the imagineers has gone into the making of this ride.
Best ride ever! As there was a group of 12 of us, of all ages, this was one of our favourites! Couldnt see Captain Jack Sparrow though which is a shame because he is in the one in Florida.
An absolute masterpiece. Probably a ride you will ride again in 50 years from now. The queueline is full of details, the ride is fantastic, and the music… Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirate’s life for us ! Plus : it feels good during cold winter months to sit in this hot atmosphere… 10/10 hands down
yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me! me and my dad enjoyed this ride numerous times. fun for all ages, a boat ride through pirate times where you bump in jack sparrow and his friends. its a must do.
I have been on this ride more time than I care to mention and it never fails to please. There are two small plunges but nothing to worry about. Disney Imagineers have made this a truly unforgettable journey through dungeons and a Caribbean island and numerous audio animatronics of wenches and pirates abound! Very small children might find it a little scary but I should think it will appeal to all over 5’s! You will be singing ‘Yo Ho A Pirate’s Life for Me’ for ages!!!!
Fantastic. Brilliant. A must for everyone. This has got to be one of my favourite rides, from the queueing area to the actual ride itself is first class. I love the way that even the queue line feels like an attraction, a brillant atmosphere ( a bit hot though, had to strip off hat and coat!) The ride itself is so clever and now having seen the films, you can see where the ideas and characters came from ( dog with keys in mouth). The effects and atmosphere are amazing. The climbs and drops are not too scary (I can cope with it)! You MUST go on this one.
10/10
Great ride, great music. The ride is well themed with quiet areas where you can enjoy the theming and slightly more ‘exciting’ parts when you go down the dark slopes and maybe get wet! The queue at times for the ride can be long, if so go away and come back later as you can usually then walk straight on. A must do ride for most of the family.
A great ride, last year we went on the ride and we could walk through the less themed waiting line, so we thought, were gonna ride in a minute. But then there was the beautiful waiting line inside, were it is even enjoyable waiting a couple of minutes!
Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the best rides at Disneyland Paris!! It is better than the one in Florida (in my opinion) becuase it has larger dips and more splashes! I love the movies and the ride makes it even better, my whole family love it to! You must go on this ride!!
Love this ride. We went on the ride and because it was pretty quiet we were able to stay on again. Love just drifting along and then you have the pull up the hill and then further along the dips down.
We absolutely love this ride. Especially if you’re feeling a little tired – it’s great for a rest! Everything about the theming is terrific and we never tire of revisiting it! Can’t wait to go back again soon.
This classic dark rides gets it right on every level: brilliant animatronics, excellent sets and a catchy theme song. Unlike the cut down Walt Disney World version, this ride features the lot: drifting through the Blue Bayou, the journey through the bombarded fort and town, and the creepy caves. It even features some extras including a realistic animatronic sword fight, and a pirate swinging over your head. Most of the dialogue in the ride is French.
This is a very high capacity ride that rarely has much of a wait. If the ride is running on full capacity it’s amazing to see how many people it moves through! This ride is a little intense and can be scary for some younger children.
Overall this attraction is one of my faves and is not to be missed. Everything from the queue line to the finale is excellent. A truly brilliant attraction.
This is definitely my favourite attraction in Disneyland Park. It has great theming, an amazing atmosphere, and is very enjoyable.
People often think that a rides have to have the most loops or the biggest drops to be one of the best, but they don’t. Pirates Of The Caribbean prooves that.
This is one of our favourite rides in the resort. The special effects are great and the ride goes slow enough to enjoy the sights! The flumes are just steep enough to give you a little ‘thrill’ but not so steep as to frighten the little ones. Great ride for all ages. Meeting Jack Sparrow outside really adds to the experience!
Top quality attraction, a true gem of a ride. Often with a very short wait due to a huge capacity, although you wouldn’t mind waiting in the queue line too much anyway because of its atmospheric feel. A few of the animatronics are looking slightly aged, but this is probably one of the only down points in what is a world-class ride; there’s even a restaurant situated inside the ride.
