Stayed here in September and had excellent service. Brilliant room with a view from Newport Bay all across the lake to the New York Hotel, with the castle in the distance. Really beautiful. The breakfasts were good, lots of choice and variety.
We had a problem where a couple of the tiles were cracked in the shower and the water was going through and making the floor in the room damp. We called maintenance from the room phone and they came up straight away (11:30pm!) and offered for us to switch rooms but we didn’t really want to so they suggested we shower towards the other side of the cubicle, however when we returned from the parks the next day it had been fixed! Brilliant!!
We had lovely cocktails in the Red Wood Bar, a definite must-do for any adults on holiday there. Such a great atmoshphere. I would class it as higher than a 3 star!
Stayed here for 3 nights 22 -25 sept 09 hotel overall was good. However when we arrived the lift from the entrance to the reception was broken which was a problem as we had a suit case & a pushchair to carry up the stairs. The lift was not fixed during the duration of our stay so this became a pain, you could get a lift but had to walk quite a long way round.
On check in our room was ready & when we got to it, it was huge we didnt have a lake view but this wasnt a problem as we only really slept in it!!! Breakfast was a total bun fight if you didnt go at your allotted time, we went early one day 7.30am and it was much better.
We booked this hotel because it had a swimming pool when we went to use it we found it was closed, I was disappointed we were not told this on arrival. No hot drink making facilities in our room so my husband walked to Starbucks each night for coffee. Hotel has left luggage facility which was excellent and styed open till 10pm, for a fee they would take your luggage to the train station. Over all good.
Just returned from 3 days at this hotel with my 2 children.
The theming of the hotel is excellent and the bar area looks lovely, if a bit expensive (9 -12 euros for a whisky, 6.90 for a pint), you won’t be getting drunk here thats for sure.
The breakfast rush was very civilised and well managed. The reception area was very nice and as my daughter said “it always smells nice”. Check in was well organised and very easy.
The only minus points were the room which was a bit dark and dull, and in need of a spruce up, and the pool was shut for repair.
All in all, it is an excellant hotel and i would certainly stay here again.
Lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff. We booked a Montana room, but was only on the 2nd level and not much of a view, but mind you not there much anyway! The rooms could do with a bit of a redecorate and the loo had a whiff about it, but the beds were warm and comfy.
The breakfast is fantastic, eat all you can buffet, great selection of cold meats, cheese, fruit salads, yoghurts, bread, croissants and pain au chocolat. Don’t forget to stock up and make a few butties to take to the parks so you don’t get ripped off with the food prices! Would stay here again, but request a room with a view over the lake.
The first time I came here was with my parents when we had found a campsite we had booked into not as great as we thought it would be. We soon decided to book into one of the Disney hotels. In the end we booked into the sequoia lodge for our remaining 4 days. The price was reasonable for what you normally pay in Disney, and the staffs were more than helpful and happy to book us in at the last minute.
We were given permission to detach our caravan at the end of the parking lot, giving us the opportunity to leave Disney and take a trip into Paris if we chose to. The rooms were comfortable and basic, with everything we needed, particularly after a long day at the parks.
Breakfast was good, with a good range of foods, e.g cold meats, cheese, pastries, juice, and tea and coffee ect. As most have said, I highly suggest booking to go for breakfast early, between 7-8. It might seem an early rise, but it helps you avoid queues (which there will be plenty of when you enter the park) and, in the summer, make the most of the early magic hours.
My dad and I decided one afternoon to go to the pool before we head out for dinner. To no shock, it was almost empty. The water was cool, maybe slightly chilly to some. The small outdoor pool was nice too, and the Jacuzzi was very warm. This was a nice to enter after being in the cool pool. However, when exiting the Jacuzzi, you have to enter back into the colder water in the main pool, which now feels freezing!
One of my favorite places in the hotel, was the bar. The huge fireplace in the center would have been amazing to see in the winter, however the bar seemed very cosy anyway.
Overall, I found this hotel basic but still good. The theme of the hotel helps you join the atmosphere that surrounds, and you quickly feel like you are part of the goings on around Disney. I have returned to this hotel since that stay and would still go back. Although I can’t wait to try out the Newport Bay Club this year as we leave on our holiday there this Thursday. I hope people have as good a time as I did when I was there :).
Amazing hotel although more suited for autumn/winter stays. Ive been to this hotel twice and have just booked to go there this winter… a useful tip to remember is tht if your room gets a little stuffy, ask reception to lend you a window key to open your window fully
We’ve stayed at this hotel a few times now, and definately one of the better hotels regarding theming. As someone already mentioned, the rooms could do with a little sprucing up, but in all, very clean and serve their purpose well. Also, there is more choice at breakfast than that of the Santa Fe for example, even though it can get rather busy.
We stayed at Sequoia Lodge for Christmas last year (08-12-08) for a short stay for the festive period (We normally stay 7-11 days). It was just me and my partner so we paid extra for a Montana Lakeview room. The room was nice and spacious, and very clean. The room consisted of; one double bed, storage cupboard, luggage rack, mini bar, a large bathroom and a TV cabinet. We had a corner room with windows on two walls, very nice but I was hoping for a higher floor and despite paying for a lakeview, we appeared to only have a view of the surrounding trees :( which I was quite disappointed with as it would have been cheaper to stay at New Port Bay Club, a hotel I have always wanted to try, and will in 149 days!!
The theme in this hotel was perfect for Christmas and was decorated for the festive season. Character meet and greets were well organised as was breakfast. The hotel restaurants were good too, the CMs even let us stay to finish our bottle of wine even after it had closed. Check in was fast (max 10 mins! With no queue) and our room was available immediately even though we arrived at 1pm, it’s always worth asking when you arrive ;)
We would defiantly return, especially for Christmas. We even got a white “Christmas” that year as it snowed on our second day :)
Have stayed at Sequoia before and enjoyed a pleasant stay although rooms were tired and a bit drab looking, but always said we would stay again if watching the pennies.
Stayed again on a inpromptu Xmas trip in 2008 and were delighted at having been given a lake view montana room on the 6th floor.
The room was clean, newly refurbished and bigger than the room we had at the HNY. We also had a view of the Castle and could watch candlebration from our room which was wonderful. We also got VIP breakfast passes.
Having such a great room really improved our SL experience and when we are going back this Autumn we are choosing to stay here over the dark smokey rooms we have had at HNY (I have of course requested the same room as before!)
We stayed at Sequoia Lodge 2 times, the first time we stayed at the lodges and in the summer. We didn´t like it that much then. Last time we had a room in the main building and we went during the fall. That was a whole different experience, there was a really nice atmosphere. We sat by the big fireplace in the evening, real warm and cosy.
The rooms are comfortable and clean. We got a room with lakeview, that was extra special. Also it’s just a short walk round the lake to Disney Village and the parks. Breakfast is sometimes crowdy, but the choice of food is quite good.
During the summer time I’d rather stay at Newport Bay Club, but during the fall or winter I would definitely go back toe Sequoia Lodge!
My family stayed in the Sequoia Lodge for 4 nights at the beginning of January. Once we managed to make our way to the hotel we were checked in very quickly.
Our room was very spacious, comfortable and most of all WARM. Quite the upgrade from some of the places we had been staying in prior to our stay at Disneyland. The bathroom was clean and there was plenty of space to dump coats, hats etc. I will admit that we had a terrible view, no lake just a bit of a car park sort of thing.
The hotel was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the absolute perfect choice for the time we were there, I felt completely at home among the ice and snow in the forest. Breakfast was very nice, we went early every day and were seated very quickly.
The Redwood bar was amazing with a huge fireplace, perfect place to sit after a long day in the parks. There was also a lovely heated pool with a slide, spa and a sauna. This was beautifully themed and we came back for a swim after lunch one day while it was quiet. We felt we were in an easy walking distance of the village and parks and only used the bus once (to get to the place when we first arrived!).
Overall we had a wonderful stay and were very impressed with the quality of service. Luxury compared to our squishy little hostel in the middle of Paris!
Myself and my new husband stayed in the sequoia Lodge for 4 nights in late December.
We had had a mad 2 weeks of wedding preparation and party etc. We had booked the Sequoia as we liked the whole park theme a few months in advance. We had little time to think about it again until we were in the airport!
I worried that my husband wouldn’t enjoy the whole Disney experience as hes not the big fan I am. But I needn’t have worried. It was amazing! Every minute. I have never had so much fun, and husband loved it more than me!
All the staff in the sequoia were lovely and helpful. Our room was cosy and comfy. The Redwood bar is beautiful, although we never got a chance to sit beside the fire. I think those people held their seats there all day!
I really cannot rate this hotel high enough in words so suffice to say in 2 weeks we are returning for 6 days! I cannot wait. We went to all the other hotels to have a look, having a coffee or tea as we went- except for the Disneyland Hotel – where we were frisked upon entry!!
And the Sequoia suited us best. The style, atmosphere, theme! I couldn’t get over the value for how near to the parks! Got to chat with the ducks by the lake each morning!
The Breakfast was yum, great selection! and once we cottoned on to early breaki = no queue we were up and at em at 7am! I wasnt too gone on the food in the restaurant in the evenings but then we’d been spoiled by the food in the xmas market! We had no hesitation on picking the Sequoia for our 2nd trip. It ticks all the boxes :)
The chrismas theme really sat well among all the forestry!
We decided to splash out and stay at the Sequoia in an up graded room. Wat a view! Three of our 4 walls were windows giving us an amazing view of Lake Disney and Disney Village. The room was huge and this time had space for a cot and still have a huge amount of space. The hotel is well themed, although it is starting to look a little run down in places. Great character meet and greet and plenty of option for food.
We went in the winter months and it was great to be able to sit in the bar after a day at the park with the huge open fire roaring in the background.
One other little addition which I felt was great was the availability of hot drinks as you left the hotel. If you exited on the lower level by the breakfast hall you were able to pick up a free hot drink to take on the walk to the park.
The hotel has beautiful surroundings and a great atmosphere. Although it was expensive (and what Disney hotel isn’t?) I wouldn’t hesitate at staying there again.
We have just come back from a 4 days/3 nights stay at the SL.
It was our first time there because we had always stopped at the Cheyenne before and to be honest I expected more by the upgrade.
Checking in was quick and smooth – better than Cheyenne but this could had been just because we arrived in a different time. The room clean and cosy – we were on the 4th floor of the main building but the view depressing as we could just see the back car park.
Breakfast was more or less the same of the other Hotel but with the bonus of a CM seating you at a table when you had to find yourself a place to sit in at the Cheyenne. We did not use the pool for a lack of time and never ate at the Restaurants either, it was easy to walk to and back from the Village anyway.
Would stay there again if I had the chance to but I am not so sure it is worth the extra price.
We have now stayed at Sequoia Lodge over 10 times, so must like something about it ! Every year we say we are going somewhere different , but Sequoia gets the vote.
The rooms are great and a Montana is definitely worth it. Staff are very helpful and although busy at Christmas the bar is a nice place to be during the evening. However, breakfast can very much like a rugby scum although there is plenty of it and the croissants are fabulous.
However, the Christmas decorations are not nearly as good in recent years, with little decoration outside . We usually eat at the Hotel on our last night, but after two disappointing years, we will be looking elsewhere this year… food has been cold and limited choice at the buffet table.
We stayed here in November 2007 in a Montana room which I would highly recommend as you are in the main building. The reception staff were very helpful and even upgraded us to a lake view !Our room was cosy and clean and even looked like it had been freshly painted.
Breakfast was very busy and crowded but tasty and plenty of it !! The Bar has a lovely feel to it and the big fire was great after a walk home in the cold from the parks although the drinks were very expensive.
We have also stayed in the Newport Bay Hotel and I think I prefer the Sequoia to it but that was maybe due to the fact we had a lake view here .We are going back this November and this year we are giving the New York a try.
We stayed at this hotel, in one of the Montana rooms, the first time we visited DLRP in 2005. We found the hotel to be pleasant enough but the dark decoration was not to my taste, which is why we now prefer the Newport Bay and the New York.
The room we stayed in was clean and had everything we needed although not as big as in the other hotels we have since stayed in. The swimming pool was closed during our visit so we did not get to experience this, although this did not matter too much as our girls, aged 3 and 2 at the time, were both exhausted by the time we got back from the parks each day!
We ate at the Hunters Grill restaurant one night and found it to be perfectly nice for the adults but the children were not so happy with either their food or the atmosphere. I think with two small children we would have been happier at the less formal Beaver Creek restaurant opposite.
As with the Newport Bay hotel we enjoyed the walk around the lake to the parks in the morning, but this is not so great in the evening when the children are already tired.
We found this hotel to be good value for money and would recommend it if you are on a budget, but we now prefer the New York hotel for its proximity to the parks, larger rooms and hot breakfasts.
I’ve stayed in this hotel twice now, both times in the main building and both times for the christmas season. The first time was early november 2004 or 5 I think and loved it.
The atmosphere was great, real winter feel, so the second time I decided to go for the christmas season, I just had to stay here again. We went for new years 06-07 and it had the same great atmospherem just loved it. I have also stayed in the explorers hotel, santa fe, newport bay and new york hotels as well at different times of the year summer and stuff but feel if you go in winter this has to be the hotel. Not sure you would get the same great atmosphere in the summer though as it is like a real winter log cabin.
My tip to fully enjoy this hotel is go in the christmas season. Sitting by the open log fire in the bar after a cold day enjoying the park; nothing can beat that warm cosy feeling you get.
I have just returned from a 4 day break with my three year old. I had booked a Montana lakeside room at Sequoia Lodge and to be honest after reading the comments, I was quite apprehensive about my choice.
To say I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement. Check in was smooth – no queues and friendly service. The room was on the sixth floor with a great view over Lake Disney and the extra treat of being able to watch the fireworks from the comfort of the room while my little one slept. The ice machine at the end of the corridor was an added bonus although we didn’t avail of the minibar. We chose to buy provisions much more reasonably at the little Casino supermarket in the railway station.
The room was comfortable and cleaned daily, although I have to agree that there was little theming. Breakfast was great – we chose a 7:30 time slot and were seated quickly. The choice was good – my daughter enjoyed mixing her cereals in one big bowl! I opted for the breads and cold meats. I have to admit though when we left just before 8 am, there was a lot more jostling around the food and queues building outside. Another advantage of an early breakfast is that the 8 am meet and greet is very relaxed. It was a terrific experience for my daughter – the surprise of seeing Minnie on the last day of our holiday topped it off. I know the photos taken by the hotel are expensive but I found them worthwhile – my attempts were quite poor, having obscured her whole face on one instance with Goofy’s nose! For €40, I got four amazing photos of her with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto. A costly souvenir but worth every penny!
I booked half-board plus and ate at Hunters Grill in the evening – I enjoyed the choice on offer but my little girl who is normally a great eater was less than impressed. When another family saw my attempts fail at getting her to eat, they said that they had experienced the same thing. Not all children eat chicken nuggets, chips and smiley faces! Some plain veg, mashed potatoes or sausages would have been welcome.
The main reasons I chose Sequoia Lodge were the proximity of the parks, the air conditioning, the views and also the swimming pool. In the summer I thought these were particularly important. The swimming pool was great and really child-friendly – with good theming. We thorougly enjoyed the slide and being able to relax in the outdoor portion of the pool on a warm sunny day. Another reason why I chose the hotel was the inclusion of the outdoor play area – I was disappointed when I saw it – a seesaw and a rocker in a sand pit. However, a three year old has a completely different perspective – when I asked her on her return home what her favourite part was, she said the play area! We went there several times and were always the only ones using it.
We chose to make the most of the early opening hours which was great – no queues and then we returned back to the hotel in the afternoon when it was hottest to avail of the facilities there, like the pool and the children’s indoor and outdoor play areas. We went back to the park in the evenings to enjoy the parades.
Disneyland Paris was a great holiday – real escapism – so much so that I have already booked to go back before Christmas. Although I would go back to Sequoia, I have booked Cheyenne this time as the factors which prompted me to choose Sequoia are less important in the winter and also the theming seems really good in Cheyenne especially for a little one. So yeehaa here’s to another great Disney experience!
Myself and my other half have stayed here twice in November 2004 and November 2007, both times having a truly magical time.
The hotel is surrounded by huge conifers and the walkways between buildings really do give you the feel of being at a Californian National park, if you are staying at winter time and especially Christmas time this is an ideal hotel.
The reception does always appear to be very busy, but the check in staff are very helpful and knowledgeable.
I have stayed both times in a Montana room, once by booking this, the second time a free upgrade. I would recommend this as the other lodges can be a bit of a trek from the main building.
The rooms themselves are large with 2 double beds and comfy ones at that!! There is plenty of storage and wardrobe space. The rooms are starting to look a little tired, non more so than in the tiny bathroom . Here you’ll find a 3/4 size bath and a shower that will not be contained by the dated shower curtain. The tiles and floor are starting to show their age. There is a mini bar with snack and soft drinks if you don’t mind paying the going rate but no tea and coffee making facilities, although a tea/coffee kit and kettle can be hired from reception at an extra cost. On a cold November night I think a cup of tea is just what you need after a full day in the parks!! Overall it is the standard you may find acceptable on your summer hols to the Costa del Sol, but a tad disappointing to find in a place you expect to fill you with Disney magic, I think the rooms show everyone of their 15 years of service.
The facilitates at the hotel itself vary; The massive roaring open fire in the bar area is perfect on winter evening’s but the limited amount of seating means it gets very busy. The pool area is a lovely way to relax with a hot tub and waterfall slide for the little and big kids. The shop sells all the essential bits and pieces you may have missed out of in the parks along with confectionery and drinks (and chilled Disney wine in the fridges for big kids) but is VERY busy in the mornings and after the parks close.
I’d say the biggest downside to this hotel is the meal times. Breakfast is a busy rugby scrum for food even if you go at your pre-allocated time you will no doubt have to queue for a table and scramble around for food – I like my breakfast to be a calm affair whilst I bring myself back into the world of the living but no such luxury here – on both our stays we have passed on breakfast in the hotel after the first morning and grabbed a bite in the park, if I was travelling with children I think I would find this a unnecessary additional cost when breakfast should be included. It is a similar story at tea time. Once the parks close despite the large size of the hotel it becomes VERY busy, again queues forming at both of the restaurants. After one night we headed out of the hotel to the Disney Village, again maybe not such an option when travelling with tired little ones?
Overall, nothing in the hotels could stop me from having a truly wonderful time in the parks, I love Disney and everything they offer but feel this hotels disappoints slightly in term of the basics it offers. If you are aware of and plan for the long waits for food and don’t expect too high a standard from the rooms and still decided to stay here you’ll have a great time. I am visiting DLP in November 2008 and as I am bringing my 3 year old nephew and may be spending more time in the hotel and relying on most mealtimes here we will be paying that bit more to stay in the Hotel New York, which looked a lot quieter and more organised at meal times.
My family and I stayed at this hotel about 3yr ago we found the apartment we stayed in a little basic but nice, only draw back the windows were locked so if there had been a fire… well you think on that one.
But apart from that we truly enjoyed the stay, and as for the pool WOW!! Lots of fun especially the slide as my daughter and I had plenty of enjoyment out of with my wife videoing everything.
The saunas would recommend very clean even the shower areas, and the staff very pleasant and helpful.
As for the staff at the Hotel perfection is what I’m thinking, they work hard and not forgetting the language barrier for all that come from around Europe and they handle it with ease.
When we stayed and ventured to the Disney Village and the main resort which were outstanding you just lose yourself and forget about all your worries back home (If you have any) Me I’m 44yrs old but once in Disney I’m a child again, if you were brought up with Disney from an early age you will understand where I’m coming from.
But coming back to the Hotel during the evening when its dark and in the distance from the Disney Village Sequoia Lodge looks so warm and welcoming.
As we are coming back in September 2008 for our 2nd stay at Sequoia Lodge I’m really getting the holiday buzz even now and I’ve got 10 weeks to wait yet, the child is trying to get out again in me…
We have stayed at the Sequoia twice now, and are on our way back in August. I love how the hotel is only a short walk away from the park, but when in the hotel you feel as though you could be a million miles away from all the hustle and bustle! Never had a problem at the hotel, on our first visit, the room only had one double bed when we had asked for two, but this was sorted within a matter of minutes, no fuss!
Cannot wait to go back and im sure we will have a fantastic time again! Could do with a few more channels or variety of programmes on the t.v, but i assume thats the same in all the hotels!
We stayed for a 4 days last week. First impression in that Sunday morning was: WHAT A MESS!!! Lot of people in front of the hotel, waiting for their bus, to go at the airports. When we came in the lobby, picture was even worst. Hundreds of people waiting for check-in. My first thought was: what I’m doing here !!!
But after 10-15 minutes I finished our check-in, and with our tickets we were on our way to the parks. It was amazing experience, how the hotel stuff deal with the crowd. It was 10 people behind reception desk, on different languages, they solved reservations. We left our bags at the bags room, and went to the parks.
When we came at 3 PM, room vas ready. Spacious, clean non smoking Montana lake view room on 6th floor. Bathroom was perfect, lot of towels, clean and big. View was perfect. My daughter (11) was amazed.
Food was great both in the Hunters Hill and in the Bewares Creek, breakfast and dinner was nice andy plenty of everything. Pool was great, but overcrowded. Sauna and hamam worked all time, but unfortunately we hadn’t enough time to enjoyed it. All hotel stuff was GREAT.
All in all, our experiences was really great, stuff was GREAT, and we would recommend this hotel to anyone.
The staff at the check in was very friendly and helpful. The line up was short, around 5 – 10 minutes and we had our room around noon. But the room was not clean especially the bath especially, there was no warm water. Beside this the hotel is nice but the Cheyenne and Santa Fe are better themed with more lovely details.
I have stayed here twice. The first time I stayed here was when I was 11, so I decided to return with my boyfriend for new years eve. We arrived on the 30th of december to a VERY busy reception!! The staff were very polite and helpful and before long we had checked in and left our bags to go to the parks. Later that day we picked up our key and discovered we had been upgraaded to a Montana room in the main building, which was a lovely suprise! The rooms are spaciaous and cleaned regularly.
The breakfast was nice, not as good as the Hotel New York, but you get what you pay for. We decided to have a fantasyland breakfast one morning and it was fantastic, much less queues and right beside all the rides!
As we stayed over New Years on New Years eve we had dinner at the hotel at 8.00 before going to the parks. It was one of the best experiences of our trip!! The food was fantastic, and as it was nye there was red rose petals all over the tables!! The charcters also paid a visit which kept the kids entertained.
Overall I would have no hesitation staying At the sequoia Lodge again – fantastic!!
We’ve stayed here three times now and will be staying here again in November. we love the atmosphere here, so cosy in the Winter. We always get up for an early breakfast so as to avoid the queues, which by the time we leave for the parks are huge. The breakfast buffets are superb and there is so much choice. The Redwood Bar is the perfect place to relax after a long ‘Disney’ day.
The rooms are basic, but we have always found them clean and fresh. It’s a lovely walk to the Village and Parks past the Lake so for us this is the perfect place to stay, reasonably priced and very comfortable.
Once again had a fantastic stay here, we had booked standard rooms but found when we had arrived that we had been upgraded to montana rooms and also been given V.I.P breakfast passes which were fantastic. Our rooms were lovely my children received a free thumper plushie each. The staff were very nice and helpful I will happily stay here on our next visit my only complaint is the swimming pool is freezing even more so after being in the jacuzzi lol
We stayed here in the February half term, staying in the Monterey Lodge, it was quite a hike to carry the luggage to the room and then find we were upstairs with no lift. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was pretty much as expected. It was a long walk in the morning to get to breakfast, after keeping to the quite icy path on the first morning, we short-cutted through the neighbouring block the other mornings, but it still took us nearly 10 minutes to get to the dining room. If you’re not at breakfast for 7am you will be queuing (we waited for 20 minutes when we waited for an 8am breakfast).
The swimming pool was good, but very crowded in the early evening and the changing rooms are extremely small and in short supply. The water was pretty cold as well and then you have to go outside to get back to your room. The bar area was warm and welcoming, and the service was excellent.
Overall, we liked the hotel but wouldn’t count it as a favourite, mostly because of it being so spread out, but I imagine this would be less noticable in the summer.
The Sequoia Lodge hotel has become out favourite hotels to stay in when we visit the resort. Its location amongst the trees and beside the Disney lake is fine and the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the Village and the Parks. We have stayed in the lodges (the one next door to the swimming pool is very good) and in the main hotel itself, so we can compare them. We prefer the main hotel as no room is too far from the main restaurants and shop and the exit to the park.
Our last stay, in early February 2008, saw us in one of the rooms that had obviously been refurbished and re-decorated. Everything worked and the room was both comfortable and clean. The housekeeping service was excellent.
We have never had any difficulty in obtaining extra towels and a kettle (from the concierge).
The reception is well manned and the staff extremely capable and friendly to the new arrival. We normally arrive in the resort, after a flight from the UK, at about 10.00 am local time so we always leave our luggage in the Left Luggage area so that we can get the time in the parks. Good and efficient service.
Breakfast is of the “continental” buffet style (in most of the resort hotels breakfast is buffet style) and there is a choice of pastries, cold meats, yoghurts, fruits etc.
Dinner is served on the buffet style and there always seemed to be a wide choice available. Children are catered for as well with chicken nuggets, pasta dishes etc.
The shop is always well stocked and is the place from where you collect any items that you have purchased using your hotel “Easy Pass” during the day.
Disney characters are often to be seen at the far end of reception between the lifts and the staircase down to the two restaurants. There is a children’s pay area here as well.
There is also a games room (adjacent to the entrance to the reception area) for those a little older who want to play pinball, pool etc.
The double rooms have a king-sized double bed whereas the family rooms have two standard double beds. I like the rocking chair in the room, despite the fact I fell asleep while I was sat on it and slid off!
All in all a very pleasant place to stay and good value for money being in the mid-price range.
We stayed here in September 2007, having stayed at the Cheyenne twice before. The location and standards of the hotel are excellent. The log cabin feel is unique and is relaxing. The breakfasts were busy, however, even though we had a lot of people in our party (11), they always had a table ready with no waiting, and the staff were superb (happily playing with our children and smiling). The reception area is large and bright, and the shop sells everything you need. The rooms are clean and spacious.
Having said all this, it does have its negative points. We were told that we were too early for our rooms and had to come back later, which we did and was still told the rooms were not ready (we had to argue with the receptionist). When we eventually found the rooms, we were upstairs with no lift (no good for buggies!), even though we asked for a lower ground room. Whilst on the subject of buggies and prams, this hotel is not for young families. From the restaurant to reception, theres only one very small lift that always had a queue of people waiting to use. Due to the queues at the restaurant, it was difficult getting a buggie through here. We had to fold our buggies up and carry the children through some nights. The characters looks cramped up at the end of the reception. Queuing with the children was a nightmare, at some times, they asked to leave!
Overall, its a pleasant hotel, one that should be visited by either couples or families with older children. As we still have young children, we will go back to the cheaper yet more child-friendly Cheyenne.
Following a disaster at Davy Crocketts (review is long but there), we ended up moving to the Sequoia for one night 28th February 2008.
We arrived at the hotel about 22:15, and the girl on reception was extremely helpful and efficient – she even booked us a table for 4 at the Hunters Grill for 22:30 and rang ahead to let them know we would be arriving, probably about 10 minutes late.
I really love this hotel, the smell of the wood is the first thing that strikes me about it, and that’s one thing I really like. We had a room in the Yellow Stone Lodge (I am almost certain), with 2 double beds and plenty of space for all of us (2 couples). I especially liked the fact that the sink was outside the bathroom, as it meant that we could get on with getting ready for bed without too much of a bathroom queue!
Room was clean and well stocked – we had asked for extra towels while we checked in, and by the time we arrived in our room after dinner there was an extra set, along with extra toiletries. The only gripe I have (and the reason for my rating of 8 not 9) is that we wanted to turn the air conditioning on (we all like a cold bedroom) and no matter what we tried we had no success. Also the window would not open (I assume this is due to being on the ground floor), so we were melting and quite uncomfortable throughout the night. However, with 4 people in the room, we expected it to get quite warm quite quickly.
Breakfast was (as expected) quite busy, but we had chosen to have an early day and take advantage of extra magic from 08:00, so we were some of the first people in at 07:10 ish. My only gripe was that the toasting machine was a bit useless, but hey, you can’t have everything!
Overall, I would totally recommend this hotel to anyone who wants more than basic, but doesn’t want to pay too much for the privilege. We’ll definitely be back, the 2 double beds are perfect for 2 couples who are not really fussed about sharing a room (just bring pyjamas unless you want to share more than just the room!!).
Been to Sequoia Lodge 2 times, last time was September 2006. It’s the Disney hotel I do not like that much, but that’s just because of the theme. I guess the very rustical style is nice in winter, but for me it’s too dry and simple and not enough Disney. The rooms are a bit too dark, but comfortable.
Breakfast is well organised but a bit noisy. The bar and the restaurants are great, I can highly recommend them.
Have stayed in Yellow Stone Lodge (March 07) and Montana room (Nov 07), actually enjoyed the stay at the lodge more than the main building, a shorter walk back from the parks in the evening. Sequoia Lodge has many fans but I’m afraid I’m not one of them, the rooms are very tired looking, the very dark wood is chipped and very noticeable because of the colour, the “Autumnal” colours made the whole place feel very drab IMHO. On both occasions, housekeeping seem to have missed us out, several times I had soap taken and not replaced, and shampoo/shower gel was non existant.
The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are quite big enough for 4. On the plus side it’s in a great location, it’s a very pleasant walk through the village. Breakfast is of a far better quality and variety than at the Cheyenne and we had no problem being seated immediately, we always aim to be at breakfast around 7.00 – 7.30 to avoid the crowds, found all the CM’s at the hotel helpful, special mention to Pedro, receptionist March 07, the shop is very well stocked and the bar area is superb at Christmas with its’ open fire. The music and bird song playing in the grounds is a very nice touch. Have yet to find the time to try out the pool.
For me location is the selling point of the SL, I can’t be bothered with the shuttle bus fiasco, we have breakfast leave the hotel and stay out in the Village or hotel bar until latish evening, walk back, shower and sleep, so despite the grumbles I will probably book the hotel again because of it’s reasonable cost.
Stayed here on my 1st visit to dlp in june 2007. This is a lovely hotel (even if one of our party did say it looked like the hotel from the shining!) and our room easily slept 3 adults.
We picked this hotel as it is a middle of the range one price wise, but to be honest all we did here was sleep and shower, as we were so busy in the parks and village. So we felt that we didnt really see the benefits of staying here.
Beautifully themed like a mountain lodge, but beware if you get put in the lodges at the back of the complex – it’s quite a walk from the park!!
The swimming pool is wicked and the water slide makes it more fun, The pool goes outside too, which was perfect when we went in the summer and it was scorching!!
Stay here if you want something a little extra than the basic.
We spent our honeymoon here in this september. The theme and the landscape is fantastic! And kind surprise was waiting for us in our (upgraded) room. The breakfast could be very busy but you can wake up early (8am) or you can choose having breakfast in the DisneyPark.
I recommend this hotel for everyone !!!
Queues for breakfast were so bad (45 min wait) we didnt go for 2 days. Luckily we had taken food with us. A very busy hotel but beautifully festivally decorated and friendly staff.
Stayed in this hotel last summer and absolutely loved it, thought the rooms were lovely, pool was great and the breakfast was fantastic! Loads of variety for a continental breakfast and not stingy with it at all! Going again next summer and this will be my 6th visit!!
I think it helps if you dont compare the disney resort hotels to other hotels in general-they are as a whole a bit tired decor wise they are 15 years old and could do with refurbs and you probably wouldnt pay the sort of money for dated hotel rooms-however in the context of Disney resort hotels I would say that we have stayed here twice and rooms were clean and tidy and were just fine for what we needed them for-somewhere to sleep and shower (we visited in summer so really were only in the rooms from approx 11pm -8am).
Staff on reception were friendly and my requests for travel cot, kettle and bottle warmer were fulfilled promptly.
We had a montana room which meant we were in the main building which was handier. The location is good and the walk to the parks in a pleasant stroll (although it always seems longer on the way home after a busy day at the parks!)
Think this would be a nice one to stay in winter time because of the themeing.
we are planning to stay in hotel New york for our next visit for a change and a tad more luxury but we would return to the sequoia again if we watching the pennies.
I have stayed here once but if I’m honest I wouldn’t choose to stay here again. The room we had looked a little run down with a broken light bulb and slightly tatty furnishings but it was a few years ago and maybe things are better now. Location is good with a short walk to the Village and parks. The swimming pool is one of the best in the Disney Hotels and the restaurant was fine.
Disney’s Sequoia Lodge is a very good Disney hotel but one problem we had when staying there in July 07 was that you had to wait ages for a member of staff to come and put something in/out of the safe deposit boxes. The hotel is excellently themed with the Canadian style and the bar is the best looking bar I’ve been into, ever! Rooms are also very nice, with the option of a mini-bar in the room as well. I didn’t get to go into the swimming pool but I did see what it looks like and it looks like the best swimming pool out of all the Disney hotels.
I would recommend staying at Disney’s Sequoia Lodge but if you don’t need to put something in the safety deposit box (e.g. passport, wallet, camera etc…) you could enjoy your stay even more than I did.
Canadian styled hotel, with one big main building and several detached buildings. This hotel is my personal favorite. It brings you a great price quality, a cousy woodlike atmosphere and it’s only a 10 minute walk to the parc. (passing disney village) The rooms are moderate, the beds are great, the room is also woodland styled and feels like home.
The bar (with a huge fireplace!) and restaurant are one of the best of the parc.
I can totally recommend this to everyone visiting the parc on a more day visit. It’s worth every penny…
