  1. (Christmas 2008) It was coming to the end of my annual trip to DLRP and my girlfriend Gemma’s first ever trip – so I decided to take her out for a nice meal. I’ve eaten in Planet Hollywood before and know the food is good but I thought I’d try Cafe Mickey – it seemed like the perfect Disney end to a perfect Disney holiday!

We arrived at about 7ish without making a reservation, wondering if we’ll get a table. Can’t be that many people wanting a table for two in this family fun-zone… They found us a table, not to near the screaming kids – and Mickey was there to greet us! The Main Mouse not only escorted us to our table, but pulled out our chairs, gave us our menu and even made a recommendation!! Talk about service! Photos and autographs… obviously…

We decided to go for the Set Menu – 3 courses for 30 Euros.

We both had the starter of roasted garlic mushrooms on a hotplate with a WHOLE BULB OF GARLIC!! The starters came out quickly and was very nicely presented.

For Main, Gemma had the Pluto Steak (Mickey’s suggestion!!) in a challot sauce. Which came out a little rarer than she’d like but loved the sauce. I had the Pinocchio Pasta which was loaded with veggies, shitake mushrooms and chicken in a creamy garlic sauce – awesome!

For dessert we both had the Snow White Apple Tart (which I think is slightly bad taste considering…) with Butterscotch Ice Cream – it was just to die for! We were waiting a bit for our desserts and second round of drinks but with the plethora (I love that word) of characters working the room you didn’t worry to much!

Big cudos to the Sheriff of Nottingham he had the best schtick – huge belly, huge backside etc…

Overall with tips about 40 Euros a head which isn’t bad considering all the free entertainment.

  2. No No No!!!

Why are people complaining about Cafe Mickey? I don’t know if we just got lucky during our visit or what, but we made our reservations that evening before the Fantallusion parade, for 9pm.

Well, we were seated within five minutes (if that), and were seated on a nice table for two by the aisle where the characters come through. We saw Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Baloo, Stitch, Eeyore and Happy (the seven dwarfs) and I can honestly say they spent at least a good five minutes on each table. They even went out of their way to entertain you, by tickling you, feeding you (Goofy I shall never forgive you for that!), taking you off to the waitress (I was wearing a dress with a French slogan and Happy wanted to show the waitess!) and just all round general interaction. I even witnessed Stitch throwing food around on one table! Hilarious!

Our waiter was friendly, always smiling and couldn’t do enough for you. He was quick with the food and drinks, and my food (Princess Aurora’s Choice) was absolutely divine. I think the photos you get with character dining are far more natural and relaxed than those taken in the parks, therefore well worth the money. Our dessert (Mary Poppins) was a lovely end to a meal and I also witnessed the characters dancing round a few times like lunatics for birthday celebrations!

Please please please don’t listen to the negative reviews. This is an awesome place to eat, the atmosphere is brilliant and the food is beyond satisfactory. I promise you will not be disappointed.

  3. When we first ate here we had our little girl of 2 years (6 years ago now!) & being a little naivie we didn’t know about the characters, we were in for a shock as we have never eaten a meal so quickly before as our daughter back then found them to be to big! 6 years on & my now 8 year old daughter & 3 year old son always want to go here to eat everytime we visit because they want to meet the characters. This place is brightly lit, has good staff, there is ALWAYS a que to get in, we always book 3 months before coming to ensure our seat & what an eating experience it is! I would say nearly A la Carte with a twist & without the meal plans may work out quite expensive but definatlye worth the visit. Expect eating to take about 90 minutes due to the shear volume of characters visiting your table for photos & autographs. My only citisim is that space can be a little tight but bearing in mind the popularity I suppose certain sacrifices have to be made, but this shouldnt stop you eating here. 10 out of 10 & am looking forward to eating again in december 2009.

  4. We ate here twice over our stay and were very happy with the service. The set menu for 30 euros is quite good value and the food was tasty. We were on an “all meals included package” we used the cash value of our vouchers against the bill and paid any extra.

The children (2 & 3) loved seeing the characters, hugging them, getting them to sign our autograph book and having photos taken, this is a really great place to meet the characters as you have much more time with them. Although you are taking a gamble as to who will be there.

We saw, Mickey, Pinnochio, Stitch, Pluto, Goofy, Gepetto, Baloo and Minnie over the two evenings.

I would definitely reserve a table, there was quite a queue by 7pm but with reservations we were seated immediately.

  5. I have eaten here 5 times in 4 yeas and it’s always got a fantastic atmosphere. The waiters are good, poor things trying to do their job and not bump into characters. If you sit upstairs it is very different. It’s quieter cooler but a lot less characters come to see you which is a shame as you’re probably there for the characters but it is less hectic.

Have had some great chaacter interactions at Cafe Mickeys, even though there were no children at our table.

Breakfast there is excellent too. Lots to choose from and if you are in a budget hotel a calm environment in which to eat.

    By stitch09 on 15th October 2009

  6. We had half board plus vouchers, but because they are worth 26 euro each, we decided to use them for this cash value on the last night. The Mickey Menu at 30 euros is quite good value in this way.

The main appeal here is the characters – we saw eight different characters during our evening meal and the interaction was hilarious! We were so happy that Stitch was there as he is one of our favourites, so funny! And of course, the main mouse himself…

The food was hit and miss I suppose,I enjoyed the Caesar salad to start and the creme brulee was AMAZING, but the “genie pasta” was very bland and disappointing. My sister enjoyed her fish and chips and ice cream sundae, but thought the soup was too thick. Portion sizes are excellent though.

One thing that slightly annoyed us was the waiters eyeing us up and then inviting us to go out drinking with them in Paris! This really took us by surprise as this isnt the kind of thing you expect in Disneyland. To be fair, they werent pushy or sleazy and when we said no they left us alone, but we didnt think it was all that appropriate.

Other than that Cafe Mickey was a great experience, the character meals cannot be beaten for laughs and memories!

  7. Well, when I went here I didn’t like the menu but I was a kid and now my opinion can be drastically different. The theming is fantastic, it involves you in a Disney atmosphere. I love the Village theming and it’s a part of it, with the lights and a curious elegance.

Eating with the characters is always funny.

  8. We had a great meal here, and we were very pleased with the character interaction. It wasn’t rushed at all. The staff wasn’t very good at directing us to the dessert buffet, but we found it on our own. We’ll definitely return.

  9. The atmosphere here is always great, every time you eat here it’s a true party! The food however isn’t always that great..

My sister and I ate here on numerous occasions, but sometimes the food is hot and real tasty, and sadly..sometimes the food tasted like crap…Some plates are also a bit too pricey..

By skurvy on 11th April 2009

  10. This is a must-visit restaurant whenever we go to DLP! We love the character interaction. We once arrived just as the lunch service started and DD was asleep in her pushchair. Minnie and Mickey were there just as she woke up to give her a cuddle and her face was a picture!

The food is good and we liked the choice too. You can either opt for the set menu or choose individual dishes which range from salads to pizza to steak to fish and chips and more! We’ll be back again in May!

By sarahc on 3rd April 2009

  11. We decided on Cafe Mickey mainly for the fact that you could have the character lunch. It didn’t disappoint! We booked our table for 1.30pm, reading other reviews we knew service could be slow at peak times and this is why booked for a little later.

The restaurant staff advised us that we would only have an hour with the characters but that was just right for us. The restaurant was quite quiet by the time we ordered which meant we had the full attention of all 8 characters. We had lots of photo opportunities and the characters were great with the children and adults.

The food was good but not excellent, though to be honest we weren’t there for the food. The pizzas were huge (enough for two) and the set menu for 30 euros was good value considering the current exchange rate.

Would I go there again, definitely. Would I recommend to my friends, absolutely. Just try to go when its a little quieter for a more pleasant experience.

  12. I went here with my 2 children and my mother for diner. What can I say ………. Im not sure who enjoyed it most the adults or the children!!! We prebooked our table so there was no waiting the characters where fantastic ensuring the children(and adults) got to spend time with each one.

The food was delicious and the staff couldnt do enough to help even when my daughter took as nose bleed in the middle of dinner!!! My daughter got to dance with mickey and my son bounced with Tigger. A magical evening for children and grown ups alike.

By DanceMagic on 19th February 2009

  13. I absolutely loved this experience. Our group went for the character breakfast which consisted of an American style buffet breakfast and you had the option of a hot or cold breakfast or both. During your breakfast numerous characters came round the tables and there was the opportunity to have a photo taken or get an autograph. Well worth going to.

  14. Myself, husband and children were really looking forward to a meal with the characters at Cafe Mickey, but were very disappointed. The service was terrible- our table was pre-booked yet we were 1/2 hour late being seated. We were seated in the terraced with very few characters coming our way. The service and food was absolutely terrible.

Our waitress was unenthusiastic, our meals came quite a while after we originally oder, but they came before our drinks, the food, which we picked from the set meal was a Chicken Caesar salad though it didn’t come with chicken because it was off the set menu and Pluto’s Steak was not only cold but tough being that it was a piece of old braising meat! Very disappointing!

I love Disney, but this restaurant is expensive for cheap food and the service is not all that it’s cracked up to be. The characters were the main reason for us picking the restaurant, but being seating in the terrace very few came our way and when they did we were crowded by loads of other kids- don’t bother, save money eat somewhere else and see the characters in the park at meet’n'greets.

  15. We went here for lunch as it was recommended by a friend and wanted the kids to have a bit of character interaction without all the pushing a shoving in the parks. Thought the food okay but expensive for what it was, especially the children’s menu and ended up sharing my fish with my oldest who had chosen pizza, which while cute in the shape of Mickey was a little on the small size.

Our waitress started off being friendly but by the end of the meal was rather off. When the childrens desserts weren’t forthcoming I asked for them, she disappeared without asking what they would like and some other women dressed in a suit put two tubs of ice cream on the table and left without saying a word! Maybe this was all that was left!!

The characters were great and we saw four initially before our meal arrived who each came to the table. A little later four different ones appeared (and we waited patiently for them to visit our table) however having been round about half the tables they left. When I asked the waitress if they would be returning she just shrugged and said no that was it for the lunch period. I found it rather unfair that they visit some and leave others out and of course the children were extremely disappointed.

Consequently, although the children had enjoyed meeting the characters that did come round, the mood of our waitress and the service we received plus seeing some of the characters only from afar we ended up leaving feeling rather deflated and out of pocket.

Overall found it expensive for mediocre food, not all that entertaining, no singing and dancing, but the characters that did appear were great! Would try a different option next time.

  16. Lovely restaurant and excellent service. The food itself was nothing special. There was a good choice on the children’s menu – it was nice to see a good portion of fresh veg included with my daughter’s meal.

The highlight of eating here are the character visits – we were very impressed by the number of characters present, seven in total. They spent plenty of time at our table much to the delight of our two year old.

By marcyh on 24th June 2008

  17. Dreadful service, slow and inefficient. There were only 6 characters doing the rounds and 2 of them missed our table completely!

Our friends had breakfast the following day (before we had told them about our evening) and said the same. Cafe Mickey must be going through a low patch!

By ford prefect on 11th May 2008

  18. The best thing is that the characters are there and they interact with everyone. We had to wait about 10 minutes (without reservation) and had a table right next to the window. The service was not that good, our waitress forgot the starters and brought them when we had finished. The food wasn’t really good for what we’ve paid. I wouldn’t go back especially not during peak hours.

    By stitch22 on 8th May 2008

  19. The highlight of our trip!!! The food was great and the service was quick but the show put on by the characters and the charachter interation was awesome. I don’t know who had the biggest grin, me or the kids!!! This is one not to be missed. We booked early and had no trouble getting a table.

    By pmdavies33 on 11th April 2008

  20. I found this restaurant very expensive for what it is!!

It is great for character meals-but thats it!!!

The meals come out cold and half cooked!!

You have to book sometimes in advance or risk waiting outside for ages!

I would only go there if really necessary-try Rainforest Cafe opposite for the best meal in Disney Village

  21. This is the place for characters and a good meal.

Booking for an evening meal on a Friday or Saturday (and just about any other time) is recommended.

MY first experience of the Cafe Mickey was on a Saturday night. Having booked, we were seated (upstairs) quickly and our waitress left us the menus to select what we wanted to eat while she got our drinkls order.
On this particular ocassion (Feb 2007) there appeared to be more menu choice than there was one year later when we returned but this time for a Friday night.

In 2008, the food was good and plentiful, although I suspect that may be something to do with what you order judging by the other comments, and arrived in good time and still hot. The choice was good however and I had the Pluto steak which was superb.

By a strange coincidence we were seated at the same table as we had sat at one year previously. Although on our visit the number of characters was less than previously we still had Mickey to have a picture with.

You come here for the atmosphere and the appearance of the Disney characters. If you want a quiet meal for two – forget it. Cafe Mickey is normally filled with children and the resulant noise and screams of children over tired and somewhat frustrated mums and dads who are trying to get them to stay still and eat, can be, for an interested outsider whose children are now grown-up, interesting to watch!

    One or two pointers.

There could be more of a vegetarian selection for those who do not eat meat or fish.
Cater forthe picky children who have not mastered knives and forks.
A bit of garnish and salad on some of the dishes would be good.

Great place. Would go again and again.

  22. Returned to Cafe Mickey in November 2007, we hadn’t booked but thought we’d take a chance and at 5.30pm on a Saturday were seated straight away. I don’t know if it was the cocktail or the atmosphere but within 15 minutes of being in here I was feeling completely de-stressed, no mean feat on a Christmas weekend.

I had the pasta dish and was unable to finish it, had to leave some room for the tiramisu, others in the group had steak and lamb, no complaints from the adults or kids, my youngest did ask for vegetables with his fish, which arrived with fries, for some reason he doesn’t like the fries in here but the waitress didn’t understand the problem so we left it – he wasn’t overly bothered and was more interested in visiting the kids dessert area anyway and they came back with some very strange concoctions.

No singing and dancing this time, but plenty of characters who spent lots of time with us and waved when they were on their second round, this restaurant is all about fun and the character interaction, the good food is a bonus and the Cosmopolitan cocktail is to die for. :)

    By Maleficent-Mum on 15th February 2008

  23. Ate here in January 08. Fantastic value! Had pluto’s steak, was a dream to eat! My son had pluto’s nuggets which was great. Characters were really good with my son as he is only 15 months! He loved it. Well worth spending the money!

    By slm2007uk on 7th February 2008

  24. This really is the place to be, i had my birthday meal here and even though the food choice was limited the entertainment certainly made up for that. When they brought my cake out all the characters gathered round my table with the CM’s singing and dancing, really enjoyable. overall fantastic, and i’m defiantly bringing my daughter here in September for her early birthday treat.

    By littlemermaid83 on 3rd February 2008

  25. We ate here twice last year, once for breakfast, then again in the evening. Pre booking definately recommended, gets rammed. Breakfast was quite nice with a selection of hot and colds, all the characters spent loads of time with us for pictures etc.

Evening meal…………… To be honest with you I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Great interaction again from all the characters and great atmosphere however, when spending 65euro’s (without any alcohol) per couple ,for fish and chips I expected more than a savaloy shaped piece of fish in over cooked batter and a few manky chips that shouldnt have made there way to the deep fat fryer. My dad had Rib eye steak which came as it was , just chips with no peas nor salad garnish. Food quality was diabolical which is a shame as this place had the best atmosphere!

I’ll go back but only for character breakfast.

By clarekrueger on 6th January 2008

  26. If you’re going for an evening meal my advice would be prebook your table!

This is the place if you and the kids want photos with the characters without crowds, the characters go to each table and you have plenty of opportunity for photos and autographs. The food however i think is overpriced, but if you want to meet the characters you have to pay for the food.

By iwerksdisney on 2nd January 2008

  27. At peak times booking is advised and would suggest asking if you can you can be seated downstairs (this is where the characters spend most of their time so as to be seen through the large glazed windows to attract in other customers).

Menu is slightly limited but the food in excellent if not slight pricey although I presume this is the price to pay for a character meal. My son loved this restaurant and characters provided many photo opportunities – be ready for surprise birthday party character visits and impromptu dancing (children just disappear from sight towards the music) – definately worth a visit.

By Northerngod on 18th December 2007

  28. We always have a good time here, and as it was my daughters birthday we had ordered the birthday cake.

The food was good, the only problem is if you sit upstairs try not to sit where you can see where they bring the food out as when they start to sing and dance you cant see them.

    By tink42 on 7th November 2007

  29. The best place to have a meal with the characters. They are out in force here, spending as much time as you like at your table. Their ‘minders’ do insist that you wait at your table for the characters to arrive – most do – some obviously don’t which is a shame.

The food is good, with a wide variety on the menu. The dancing and singing by the characters is very good and adds to the occasion. If its Summer and warm you get to sit outside which is excellent and makes for better photographs. The cost, while not cheap, is not expensive and worth every penny – easy to spend 2 hours in there. The staff are very good and make a fuss of the children.

Have been both at lunch time and evening, tend to suggest you get a slightly better time at lunch – seems to very crowded at night? Perhaps just tired by then! Have also been for a character breakfast! – never again, bit like all in wrestling with no rules! The characters should be given danger money.

    By phildis66 on 4th November 2007

  30. Great atmosphere-this is great for the little ones to get chances for autographs and photos with characters. Has to be a must do on your visit.

Characters are very attentive as they come round the tables and play with each table separately-and discourage any children wandering round trying to get their attention or following them.

They also do a little singing and dancing and a little routine for birthdays too.

Food and service good-however definately one for the kids if your looking for a meal as a couple or want to hold a conversation over dinner I would reccommend a quieter restaurant. Definately the best place for some character time.

By daisygirl on 2nd November 2007

  31. Dinner-Food was O.K. We had booked this to celebrate the kids birthdays and to see characters. Got fed up of other kids coming over to our table and getting in the photos. When the cake came out all the characters came around to dance with the kids as the CM’s sang, which was lovely. We wont be dining here again in the evening as it was a bit of a bun fight!

Breakfast-Again very annoying with other kids coming over to our table to see characters even though a CM kept telling them the characters would come round and to go and sit down. The food was delicious though.

By tubbsy on 27th October 2007

  32. Yes the food is good (not fantastic) You cannot however better it for a character meal. We went on two occasions in the last few days. Each time, the service was excellent especially the second time. The waiter couldn’t do enough and he made a real fuss of the kids, making them laugh, bringing them extra gifts, etc

The characters were plentiful – they went round all of the tables and splent plenty of time at each. Was worth going to Disney, just to come here. Yes – the food is 30 euros for an adult but worth double with the service and atmostphere.

By Dave Loseby on 26th October 2007

  33. We absolutely adore this restaurant! The food, the characters, the staff, and the atmosphere of the place!

By zerodanny on 26th October 2007

  34. If you only do 1 character meal at the park, do it here, we ate here in March, 2006, booked for 6.30pm and didn’t leave until 9.00pm. Meals were superb and the character interaction unbelievable. My son had a birthday cake and the experience was unforgettable, with all the waiters, characters and most of the diners clapping and singing Happy Birthday, plus Mickey, Minnie & the Genie to help blow out the candles – a magical, unforgettable night. It wasn’t cheap but well worth it and I wouldn’t hesitate to go again :)

We also had 2 character breakfasts during our stay, and again the same character interaction with the kids, although with the buffet set up, breakfast time is a little more chaotic – but plenty of choice of food both hot & cold.

    By Maleficent-Mum on 20th October 2007

  35. I loved the characters coming round the tables and allowed us to take numerous photos and they spent time with adults and children alike. I loved the decor and the video screens. I didn’t particularly like my meal, I had the steak, I like my food well cooked so asked for it to be very well done, it still had pink bits!! Also it had a lot of grissle in it, it wasn’t very hot either. Another guest in my party got his starter and we had all finished our main course before he got his, wasn’t too impressed!! The kids liked their pizza mickey’s so they were happy.

Loved the atmosphere, especially when the music came on to celebrate someone’s birthday, it was fun. Very disappointed about the state of the toilets though, they weren’t very clean. I also thought that they could do with a lick of paint and new taps. The hand towel dispenser (which didn’t work) is behind the door and a least three little girls got their heads banged by others coming in through the door.

By Poohpals on 20th October 2007

  36. I thought the food was over priced and had limited choice. However the entertainment more than made up for it. Ate there for my friends 20th and Eeyore pulled her and myself up an took us to join in with the staff and character dance as they realised it was her birthday. Magical!

    By Carnival_Princess_ on 10th October 2007

  37. I used to love this restaurant. The table service, bowl of sweets at reception, characters wandering about and the best pizza’s I’ve ever had made Café Mickey a must. This time, however, we were really disappointed to discover that due to an insolvable ‘problem with the wood burning oven’, the pizza’s were off the menu.
The remainder of the menu was either steak, salads, pasta (I get bored with pasta all the time because I’m not a huge fan of red meat and there’s only usually chicken or pasta that I can have) or fish. The cuisine is a lot more ‘European’ oriented rather than American style. We avoided this restaurant this time because of the change in menu and hope that it brings back the pizza – it’s the only kind on the resort that isn’t like ’school dinner’ pizza. The cocktails in here are excellent, as are the puddings. The best tip for this restaurant is to book, book, book! It gets insanely busy, especially between 8-10pm, which is when the characters seem to be there in full force.

    By Martha86 on 20th September 2007

  38. Have been here only twice so not a huge amount to go on, but have really enjoyed myself both times. There is an upstairs and a downstairs and very difference atmospheres in both. Downstairs there tends to be more characters (did I mention that there are characters?!) and clips from Disney films – and it tends to be busier downstairs. Upstairs you get a great view of Panoramagique, and you still get characters but there tends to be fewer of them, and no clips of Disney films. The food is good and filling, if a little overpriced, but sometimes it is worth it. I would recommend the Tinkerbell Tart, Pinocchio Pasta and the ice cream is also very good. Only misses out on a 9 or 10 as the last time we went we were quite a while getting served and when my cousin wanted juice and we tried to get the waiter’s attention, it took us about 15 minutes. However, the singing and dancing and Disney atmosphere is a joy to behold!
